UX Design Intern

JOB LOCATION

New York

OVERVIEW

UX has become one of the most important acronyms in the digital world (sorry LOL). And that’s why we’re looking for a VIP UX Design Intern to help us create ideal user experiences for VSA clients and end users. Apply ASAP if you’re ready to work with interface designers, developers, content strategists, and others to take websites, apps, etc., from WTF to OMG. You’ll learn how to beautifully take users from point A to B to C and BTW learn some amazing things along the way. A little bit about the VSA Summer Internship Program: If you’re looking for another bullet point on your resume, look elsewhere. At VSA, like much of what we do, we take our internship program seriously. Which means our interns work on “real work,” with real meetings, deadlines, and business challenges from our brands and clients. This is the education you won’t get in a classroom. Consider it career practice, with the freedom to learn, make mistakes, refine, question and tag along. You’ll work with a mentor and supervisor in a unique cross-disciplinary environment focused on brand, strategy, communications, marketing and digital. As part of the larger program, you’ll take part in intern meetings, team outings, activities and initiatives. And yes, it’s paid, with an hourly rate, for 40 hours/week, on-site. It starts June 6th. Bet you can’t wait for summer.

Note: this position is part of the Experience Architecture (XA) Discipline under VSA’s Design Practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will play a crucial role in assisting project teams to define the UX on various projects.
  • You will turn your ideas into mockups, wireframes and/or prototypes.
  • Testing and editing—you’ll evaluate work for design and UX issues and opportunities.
  • Your familiarity in the field is important as you help us conduct industry and competitive research.
  • You will assist in the design, facilitation, and analysis of client and user research.
  • Guidance and mentorship from a discipline lead as you work on research, ideation or design execution.
  • You may also have the opportunity to work directly with VSA's new Designing Change practice. The Designing Change practice partners with change leaders at the brands we work with to imagine the future of their business and how to build it.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Have a strong academic record related to the field.
  • Are very familiar with user-centered design methods, including: user research, requirements gathering, solution concept development, prototype design and specification, and usability testing.
  • You’re someone with just as much active interest in the business strategy side of UX design.
  • Have experience working in responsive design and touch/mobile interfaces.
  • Are proficient in common UX and user interface software and tools.
  • Can advocate a well-reasoned point of view with passion and R-E-S-P-E-C-T (find out what it means to meeeeee).
  • Can communicate effectively in conversation, in writing, and visually.
  • Are inspired by complex problems, and you enjoy exercising judgement and critical thinking in their solution.
  • Can handle multiple tasks and prioritize.
  • Are able to think systematically while engaging creatively.
  • Are self-motivated and willing to work independently, while also within a team structure.
