The Associate Director, Content Strategy drives clients’ brands and businesses to engage audiences through usable, useful, compelling digital content. He/she leads the planning and development of digital content on a broad range of interactive projects for enterprise-level brands.

  • Assess a client’s content needs, goals, and resources.
  • Audit existing content sources, leveraging knowledge of the digital landscape and audience.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of content and social analytics and assess current content measurement benchmarks.
  • Map content types, structures, editorial voice, and workflow processes.
  • Lead client discussions and facilitate workshops to build team and client consensus around content offerings at the onset of a project.
  • Develop strategy documents that articulate a strong point of view both for selling content plans, processes and ideas to clients as well as aligning the internal team.
  • Collaborate with Writing Discipline and Design Practice areas to guide the creation and application of visual and written content.
  • Understand a broad range of content publishing and management systems and able to help clients assess CMS options based on business requirements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of digital content creation and publishing and be able to assess and articulate industry trends and best practices.
  • Contribute to new business efforts from the content perspective, developing and articulating company vision and scope of work for a potential client’s content offering.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops to educate and guide client-side content creators, stakeholders, and reviewers.
  • Develop and document editorial calendars and content governance plans.
  • Assist the Discipline Lead in mentoring and managing members of the content strategy and management discipline and in developing and evolving the vision for the Content Strategy offering at VSA.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.


  • 7+ years of experience in leading the planning and development of content on a broad range of interactive projects for enterprise-level brands.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Strong in editorial background and experience to write, edit, and articulate thoughts succinctly, clearly and persuasively.
  • Experience in scoping and selling agency projects to clients, and be able to assist on writing proposals and pitch decks from a content perspective.
  • Experience in content planning and development in a variety of verticals, markets and industries.
  • A digital thinker proficient in digital content, including web sites, social media, blogs and mobile/tablet applications.
  • Able to perform as a thought leader in how clients use thoughtful, meaningful content to enhance and extend brands, keeping up on trends and innovations in content strategy social content campaigns and development, and content marketing.
  • Knowledgeable in the content management process for large-scale digital solutions, including an understanding of content management system technology and SEO.
  • Ability to be organized, systematic, and strategic thinker.
  • Capable of keeping an eye on the big picture, as well as the details, to drive results.
  • Adept at preemptively identifying problems and devising solutions.
  • A commitment to high quality work and to positive and productive relationships with all - clients, team members, peers, managers, etc.
  • Skills in complex problem solving, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making.
  • Ability to be versatile and handle multiple projects and re-prioritizations.
  • Ability to organize information, prioritize, have attention to detail, and accurately follow procedures.
  • Ability to maintain self-motivation and to work independently in team environments.
